Neil Diamond (who is also known jokingly as the The Jewish Elvis) is a successful singer and songwriter of pop music. He has had many hits over the decades with that majority in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. The musician has a very large following and his fans are often considered lifelong. His performances generally cause a lot of excitement and are covered extensively by the media. The songs he has both written and performed have been thought of as timeless and his music is frequently "covered" by other bands.
